What is the Children’s Safety Village?

Welcome to the Children’s Safety Village of Windsor and Essex County! The Village creates an interactive environment, designed to provide Kindergarten to Grade 5 students with hands-on safety training in a field-trip experience.

The Children’s Safety Village, located at 7911 Forest Glade Drive just south of Place Concorde, is designed as a townscape, complete with an outer road circuit with connecting roads crossing through the middle. Children will practice safety strategies while walking, riding cars or bikes throughout the kid-size Village. They will cross railroad tracks, visit the construction sites and participate in activities throughout the Village. Thanks to the generosity of local business and community organizations, children will recognize many of the establishments in the Village that could be found in their own neighbourhoods.

The Town Hall houses three classrooms and a replica of a home including a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. Children learn real life safety strategies while experiencing a pseudo fire in a homelike setting. Scenarios include experiencing a simulated smoke filled room and climbing out of a second story window to safety. This educational facility provides children with the knowledge and skills in a safe, controlled environment that could help prevent injuries and/or loss of life.
